Over a year ago, I wrote about being at the cusp—an inflection point in the evolution of artificial intelligence. I referenced Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of AI at Microsoft, who described AI as a “new digital species.”
Since then, AI has become deeply embedded in nearly every aspect of our society. It monitors our clicks, movements, and scrolling behavior online, building detailed profiles that are sold to marketers to predict and influence our purchasing decisions across the entire purchasing journey.
At one end, AI is being deployed in autonomous weapons systems, machines capable of operating independently. Can anybody say "I'll be back."
Yet on the other end of the spectrum, AI now serves as a therapist, chemist, poet, driver, and energy manager. It can generate new molecules, simulate human conversation, and control complex infrastructure.
We are rapidly approaching a world where nearly every interaction will go through a conversational interface. Whether it’s managing your home, ordering products, or navigating healthcare, AI will be the front door to almost everything.
AI is truly the reflection of humankind. Distilling all of our history, knowledge, and nuance into a seemingly benign interface. AI is us...all of us.
