A few days ago I was inspired to think about the temporary nature of so many things in our lives. Although one could contemplate that everything is temporary, my attention turned to our Passion Flowers.
Our Passion Flowers last just one day. The buds form over time and slowly prepare for the flower to open. We watch, hoping the buds survive to bloom. Oftentimes, they do not and fall prematurely.
Those that survive wait for the morning sunlight of that one special day to open. And with darkness, they close, never to open again. Within a few days, they wither and fall.
I have learned to admire them, recognizing that, in a few hours they’ll be gone.
Temporary? To the flower, it’s purpose is served. To those who admire it, the beauty lasts.
In a sense, everything is temporary. Some longer than the Passion Flower. Some shorter.
We wait anxiously for the flower and when it’s done, we wait for the next.
