Tuesday musings . . . and be careful because if you are around on Monday when I am writing, you could wind up the subject of my blog!

With full disclosure, I’m not the biggest Disney fan. But, last week we were in Orlando for a concert because my son was performing. How could we be in Orlando and not visit Disney? Bill indulged me but insisted that he was not setting foot into Magic Kingdom.

So we spent the day at Epcot. Have you been?

I have to say that the day was much more enjoyable than I had anticipated. Disney has mastered theme park efficiency. The rides were fun and walking, and eating, around the countries made it almost feel as if we had travelled much farther.

But perhaps most interesting was the mix of people in the park from so many different places. We made friends with a couple from England who wound up waiting on two lines with us. He had recently retired from his job as a fireman and they had been touring and enjoying different places for the past two years. It was so interesting to hear their perspective both on our country and theirs.

The night ended with beautiful fireworks around the countries dancing to the tune of Let There Be Peace on Earth. I know it’s corny, but frankly so am I.

I would not have chosen Disney as a vacation destination at this point in my life, but I am glad we were there.

We had an unexpectedly great time at Epcot during Labor day weekend. I loved the rides, Soarin, Mission Mars (which they now have a toned down version for people like me who couldn't handle the spins of the prior version and, of course, visiting the countries. being there during the Food and Wine festival made it even more fun.

Disney has always been a special place for my family. So much so that when my husband passed away my children and stepchildren asked to go as a "healing" trip. Epcot is actually my favorite of the parks, however my "kids" (now adults) love them all. I cannot count the number of times we have been---coincidentally I just asked if they wanted to go there to celebrate my youngest's graduation from Law School and received broad smiles from everyone. Boardwalk or Yacht Club are my hotels of choice just because of their proximity to Epcot, we can walk each night for dinner in one of the "countries" if we chose to do so---and yes, we have actually gone to the actual countries as a family, but Disney is Disney.
Congratulations on the amazing singing events your son has been involved in---Radio City, Orlando, How Great!!! And how spectacular that you have been in the audience to watch!

Anyone that knows me well knows I LOVE Disney and chose it quite often for vacations with my hubby & adult kids. Yes I'll be there again very soon, two weeks at Disney Springs, and will spend New Years first at a fine Disney Restaurant, followed by the last Cirque de Soleil-La Nouba show (closing 12/31), and then midnight fireworks! For me the Magic Kingdom & EPCOT are tied as favs. I've owned the Disney Vacation Club since 2001 so if anyone ever need any tips about travel to Disney call me!

Like Nancy & Marilyn, we enjoy the people we meet, 'walking around the world' particularly during The Food & Wine Festival and have often enjoyed the varied visiting choirs especially at EPCOT's Candlelight Holiday Celebrations. There is a different sort of magic that happens when you leave behind the turmoil of our world today. I'm happy Nancy that you saw Disney from a 'corny' perspective and enjoyed it.
