With full disclosure, I’m not the biggest Disney fan. But, last week we were in Orlando for a concert because my son was performing. How could we be in Orlando and not visit Disney? Bill indulged me but insisted that he was not setting foot into Magic Kingdom.

So we spent the day at Epcot. Have you been?

I have to say that the day was much more enjoyable than I had anticipated. Disney has mastered theme park efficiency. The rides were fun and walking, and eating, around the countries made it almost feel as if we had travelled much farther.

But perhaps most interesting was the mix of people in the park from so many different places. We made friends with a couple from England who wound up waiting on two lines with us. He had recently retired from his job as a fireman and they had been touring and enjoying different places for the past two years. It was so interesting to hear their perspective both on our country and theirs.

The night ended with beautiful fireworks around the countries dancing to the tune of Let There Be Peace on Earth. I know it’s corny, but frankly so am I.

I would not have chosen Disney as a vacation destination at this point in my life, but I am glad we were there.
