In a rut ...

In a rut ...

U-Hauls, national van lines, flat rate, even a "man with a van" – I’ve used them all for my over 20 moves across 3 states and the District of Columbia. The “to do “ lists have been pretty much the same, although each move had its unique challenges.

My recent move wash by far the smoothest of all thanks in large part to technology – pretty much everything was arranged and managed on line.

Now it’s time to “settle in.” Our home offices are set up. The Tower Garden is planted and growing. Our furnishings – new and old – are in place.

Settling in is more than that, though.  Settling in is creating a steady rhythm of life - a rhythm that was pretty much out of sync since the process of moving began.

After two weeks, we know what day the trash will be picked up. We found the Sunday farmers' market and were gifted some delicious apples from one of the farmers.  We know where to find local “happy hours” and where we can get our weekly veggie burgers. Chinese food delivery for Sunday night- we've got the place lined up.

We are now "regulars" at a coffee shop close by - they know our order already. And I have a standing, Thursday morning order arranged with the Mexican Bakery down the block. And yes, my running and workout routine is established.

We are in a rut - not rigid, never dull, just dependable and comfortable until it changes unexpectedly or by design.

Some people call it a lifestyle - I like my rut. We always fall into one when we arrive at our new home - a sign of a successful move. What about you?  Do you live habitually?
