It's true, elephants know where to shop. In Thailand this week, one named Plai Biang Lek casually wandered into a grocery store. Surveillance and social media videos show the elephant strolling in, as if he had a shopping list, calmly stopping at the counter, and helping himself to nine bags of sweet rice crackers, a sandwich, and some dried bananas.
Despite efforts from park staff to shoo him away, Plai Biang Lek took his sweet time, eventually backing out of the shop with one last snack in his trunk. Thankfully, there wasn't any damage. Just a few muddy footprints and a slightly smooshed ceiling.
The store owner was amused. “He didn’t hurt anyone,” she said. “He just came for some food.”
I think he was carb-loading for an upcoming Spartan event.
