Grandparents in the Time of Pandemic
Grandparents in the Time of Pandemic

This blog is for both grandparents and their children. Being a Grandparent in this time of pandemic- with physical isolation and social distancing--is difficult. We also recognize that parenting young children in these times was tough on our children.
A response has evolved.
A while ago, I offered to “virtually babysit” my 3 year old grandson. Not that he was left alone, but I was able to FaceTime and engage him for about a half hour whil his parents were in the next room having a break and much-needed time to focus on their work.
Flo reads bedtime stories to our 3 year old granddaughter. I get a wake up calls and we are often engaged by the others with FaceTime and Google Duo.
It is a win, win and win for grandparents, parents and the children.
Are you grand-parenting in this time of pandemic?

I like the idea, but have no grand kids yet. Now if you want to engage my near 13 year old, by all means, please do. There is no relief or break for us in this age group.

Not quite grandparenting (I'm too young!) but I am uncle-ing during Covid.

I host nightly zoom call where I share my screen and read kids books from my kindle library.

    Kids aged 1-10 years attend.

If anyone in Gotham wants to join the storytime calls at 7 PM EST, email me and I'll invite you.

I cannot imagine going through this without technology. Of course, back in the day families tended to live in close proximity, these days that's not always the case. Facetime was part of our schedule for me and my crew who are 13,12,9 and 9 years old and who are in GA and CA. It has now become a staple even for a quick check-in. In fact, we seem to be in touch way more often these days which is nice.

Funny to see this today. I am just about to write postcards to all the under-teen-year-olds I know. They rarely (if ever) get mail and it will b a new thing for them. And their parents will have to explain stamps. #SaveTheUSPS
