As we all come out of Father's Day weekend, I wanted to share a thought about "family".  I have come to realize, (with much reminding by my wonderful partner Stewart) that family is not just blood relations.

For instance, this past weekend we traveled to Texas.  The main impetus of the trip originally was to surprise my best friend of some 45 years on the occasion of her 60th birthday.  She and I have been through EVERTHING together.  Jr. High, High School, marriages, child bearing, divorce, remarriages, deaths, tragedies and so much more in the way of good memories!  She is my sister in every sense of the word, EXCEPT blood.  Stewart has a best friend that has the same place in his life, also not blood.  We also got to spend quality time with my son, my dad, my sister and brother in law, and also my dad.  Was a wonderful weekend filled with family of all sorts.

Cherish the relationships that you have and realize, we are all enriched by those that enter our life.  Sometimes we do not know, immediately, the purpose of that person in our lives, but it almost always comes to light eventually when it is most needed.
