I wanted to follow up on Nancy’s blog about the Billy Joel documentary, “And So It Goes.” I have been a Billy Joel fan since high school, yes even before “The Stranger” came out. I owned “Cold Spring Harbor” and “Turnstiles.”
Being such a longtime fan, I absolutely loved the documentary.
Throughout the five hour documentary, however, I kept asking myself the same question, why did he do this? In the documentary he, and those are close to him, reveal a lot of the darker moments in his life. Moments that many fans never would have known about if it was not included in the documentary. I kept thinking, given his musical legacy, he did not have to reveal the extent of his demons to the public. But, yet he did.
As I watched, I was hoping that my question would be answered. But it really wasn’t, it was left to the viewer to decide. Why would someone who’s legacy was a spectacular musical career like his reveal so much about his darkness?
Am I the only one with that question?
