I have often written that I typically spend my Saturday mornings attending my Weight Watcher meetings. There are a lot of changes going on with Weight Watchers currently, starting with the name. For a while the name has been WW, not Weight Watchers.

WW recently announced that it will buy Sequence, a telehealth subscription service that connects patients with doctors who can prescribe weight-loss and diabetes drugs, including the hot new diabetes drug Ozempic. My feelings about that will be a blog topic for another day.

The other changes are what affects me currently. WW has closed many of its satellite sites and consolidated them. As a result, many of their longtime coaches have either quit or have been let go. My longtime coach has decided to pursue other things and, therefore, has left WW. This has resulted in a lot of anxiety amongst my WW friends.

Last Saturday morning was the first meeting with our new coach, Melissa. To say that the room was fraught with tension would be an understatement. Melissa handled it incredibly professionally and openly admitted to her own anxiety about stepping into our longtime coach’s shoes. At that moment you felt the tension leave the room and we began. Melissa approached WW from a different perspective, than our former coach and I learned a few new things. Given how long I have been a WW member I did not think that was possible.

Sometimes change, even when it’s not wanted, can be good. How do you respond to change?
