A recent article in TimeOut (first forwarded to me by our son who has transplanted to Alexandria, Virginia) reports that Long Island is now one of the sexiest accents in the United States.
It got me thinking about accents. I guess we all have accents. I grew up in a multi language home, and although I didn’t realize it, my parents spoke English with a Polish accent.
I can’t remember ever being complemented on my New York or Long Island accent and generally avoid commenting on other people’s accents….. with one exception: sometimes I can’t resist asking where someone is from if I sense a familiar accent. Sometimes a conversation starter, I acknowledge that it is potentially annoying.
I’ll try to wait for someone to comment about my sexy accent.
