A handshake
A handshake

I was taught that if you shake someone's hand on a deal, it's done. You honor it because you just gave your word. Over the years I've been burned, unfortunately, by others who don't believe in it and seek to take advantage of every situation.

Then along comes this story that renews my faith...just a little bit:) A Wisconsin man made good on a 28-year-old handshake promise and split his $22 million Powerball jackpot with his longtime buddy.

Thomas Cook won a $22 million Powerball ticket he bought in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Apparently he immediately recalled a deal he made with his long time friend Joseph Feeney over 28 years ago.

Cook said the two men shook hands and agreed that if either of them ever won a Powerball jackpot, they would split the winnings. Well Mr. Cook called his buddy and now each of them received about $5.7 million after federal and state taxes.

It's good to have your faith restored...even if it's just for today.

Great story!! Thanks for posting. There are a lot of honest people out there, we just do not hear about it as much as we should! It reminds me of Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio's handshake deal to split all they each earn.

Thank You for sharing this. My husband always believed in a handshake deal, unfortunately he too was burned on occasion, but he never lost his faith.

If it was today it would need to be a fist or an elbow bump

Wonderful story reinforcing faith in people. A story timely needed. If one ins't happy with $5.7M I expect they would not be with $11.4 either _ happiness is an internal experience

    Wondered about details.
Did they each buy each week? Was the wife on board?

Great story and shows the honesty many people do have. It reminded me immediately of the movie Forest Gump. But this was in real life.
