A Seat at The Table
A Seat at The Table

Have you ever noticed that people tend to sit at the same seat? This phenomenon was mentioned at a recent Gotham meeting. Members just sat at their “regular” seats. Same perspective of the room and others.  No judgment. Simple observation.
I thought about this phenomenon for a while and, a few days later, was confronted by it and the discomfort caused by a change of seating.
I attended a regular breakfast meeting. At a diner. Five people. We were not seated at our regular table. But more disturbing was the fact that a "New" invitee was seated in MY seat.
I didn’t say anything. But my perspective of the others around the table was disturbed. Felt different and a bit uncomfortable.
A petty matter? Not sure… and I’m working on it

I once used this syndrome to unsettle an advisory.

I'm a creature of habit. When I get too comfortable I try to change things up. Variety is the spice of life after all. :)

I get bored easily and love to shake things (and Ben) up....although there are times when tradition is a good thing.

Set up of seating has many implications, which is why in a mediation how and where people sit is one of the items considered during preparation.
I am curious what caused your discomfort---look forward to discussing it next time we see each other.

I am a creature of habit and very much feel what Ben did and does. I like my perspective. On occasion I will shake it up, but ultimately I end up back where I am comfortable. This likely derived from having set places a the dinning room table when growing up.
