I’ve seen some really good shows and some amazing concert lineups but last Wednesday (September 9, 2026) in Bridgeport paired two of my all-time faves: John Fogerty and Steve Winwood.  No offense meant to many other great concert pairings I enjoyed but I probably need to go five decades back in time to a comparable lineup of personal all-time faves (November 4, 1974: (Loggins & Messina, Poco, John Sebastian) or July 1 and 2, 1976 (The Stills-Young Band, POCO) or Sept 23, 1979 (MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) No Nukes Concert: Crosby, Stills & Nash, POCO, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Carly Simon, James Taylor, John Hall, Jesse Colin Young, Bonnie Raitt, Stephen Bishop, Raydio).  Somewhat closer perhaps 2 decades plus — August 5 ,2014 (Fogerty and Jackson Browne).   

Attending this show allowed me to ENJOY live (emphasis intended) two great performances of my all time favorite songs: The Creedence Clearwater Revival tune, Up Around the Bend (I include a video below.), and the Traffic instrumental, Glad from the classic John Barleycorn Must Die LP.  You’ll notice both tunes in the setlists below.  

Indeed both Fogerty and Winwood enjoy long and broad catalogues of great music both as band members and as solo artists: Fogerty with Creedence and Winwood with The Spencer David Group, Traffic and the supergroup, Blind Faith. Fogerty covered Creedence tunes from five great LPs — Bayou Country, Green River, Willy and the Poorboys, Cosmo’s Factory and Pendulum; Winwood’s shorter one hour set represented most eras of his music.

John was backed by sons Shane (Lead guitar and backup vocals) and Tyler Fogerty (Rhythm guitar, backup vocals and maraca) and Doug Lamothe: Keyboards; Jesse Wilson: Bass; Richie Millsap: Drums; and Rob Stone: Saxophone.  John’s prior backing bands including some great musicians including drummer extraordinaire, Kenny Aronoff

Winwood’s versatile band features daughter Lilly (Vocals) and Nate Navarro (“Nate Groove,” Keyboards and Vocals), Paul Booth (Saxophone, Flute, and Hammond Organ), Richard Bailey (Drums) and Edson Santana (“Esanz,” Percussion).

Interestingly, I’ve only seen five artists in more than two states besides New York and until this year only 4 (Fogerty - New York, New Jersey and Connecticut; Richie Furay - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut; Eagles - New York, New Jersey, Nevada; and Poco - New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania). I’ve seen Winwood in New York and Virginia and now, last week, in Connecticut (Maybe I can add Squeeze who besides New York and Connecticut, I can count the UK as a third (nation-) state.).
