Act Your Age?

Act Your Age?

I've been noticing lately that people seem to resent that I don't act my age. Having been born in 1942 I'm actually a pre-baby boomer (figure it out).

Mostly, I don't feel old. Rather, I subscribe to Satchel Paige's axiom  "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you was?"  Plus, they say  70 is the new 50.

As an example, in preparationfor our upcoming Karaoke night I sang the Big Bopper's "Chantilly Lace" at a meeting and when I intoned "Oh Baby you know what I like!" the woman sitting next to me blanched and blurted "Skeevy".

"Forever Young"?   (your choice as to Dylan or Rod Stewart rendition.)

You're as young (or old) as you feel....and that, my friends, is up to each one of us.
Norman Spizz

The best way to look young id to hang around with older people.

Age is all in your mind. Life is too short to worry about a number. As long as you're enjoying life, that's what's important.

If we were to act our chronological age, we would all be boring. We should act our mental age, which can keep us young, vibrant and interesting. And obviously the women sitting next to you never heard old time rock and roll and has ignored what is said in today's music.
Dana Charlton

You give a great rendition of that song! Who was the woman? (you can tell me in an email) Lol!

Heck it was telling that a LI Gotham group member seemed not to believed this boomer (just barely) played full court 2x a week.
I know my wife complains about aging rockers but I truly believe that she finds it easy to rant against the rockers than this fan who still attends their shows (recent septuagenarian Al Kooper serves as an upcoming example)
My sense: if you got it, why not..
As to the tune....
.....Why not Pete Seeger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ezyd40kJFq0#t=29

I've always identified this song, however, with Joan:

And Norah Jones did this version at a tribute to Steve Jobs:

This one probably lies in HHDB's iTunes:

this one too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFnU1JAXGpA

This probably my fave version from the Last Waltz:

I remain partial to My Back Pages (must be the Byrd fan in me); this from the 30th Anniv Dylan tribute reissued this year:

As to the theme, I prefer this one got released as I completed college:

May your hands be always busy
May your feet be always swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay
Forever young

I'll take the Dylan version....So Fred...Here is what I know...I'm stuck in my 20's as far as maturity goes...At least that's what Diane says...But that's OK..I'm best friends with my kids and that's really OKAY...They tease me as much as they can because I'm "Tweeting" now....You should try it. I'm @neilhollander. I roll around the floor with all my dogs (4) at the same time screaming like a banshee. I bench 275. Swim 700 yards and eat steak rare off the grill. Look...If you are an accomplished man as we both are...Stay Forever Young....Woman find it sexy and amusing...kids love you for it...animals follow you around and for those unfortunate souls who walk around like the pricks that they are...Fuck them any way...They have annoyed me since 3rd grade....BTW YOU are still THE MAN !

I remember Rod Stewart kicking soccer balls into a crowd at MSG, raising his leg to shoulder height with an ease I've never enjoyed. I also remember an octogenarian in my neighborhood who, though wizened and knock-kneed, loves to go about in a tube top and short shorts almost as much as she loves to criticize the inappropriate dress of the young. Age is a construct, like so many other things. I say enjoy yourself, be alive and let others do the same. If the woman who labeled Fred "skeevy" doesn't like it, she doesn't have to watch.

always say - I don't act my age ;-)

THAT woman could not have possibly been a Gothamite...an organization for children of
all ages. Like I said the other day, "Whatever you do Fred, never grow up." :Your fan,
Kelly

I always say that I feel 20 in my head. And that's what I'm sticking with.

Im glad that I have been alive as long as I have. Something great to learn every day. I plan on being around another 60, and even then its not nearly enough...

Correction, Fred: 70 is the new 40. My uncle is 82 and he lives the life of a 45 year old. No matter that he has a granddaughter who's a sophomore in college...
