I like to vacation in familiar places. We have a time share in Aruba and, at last count, have been back seven times (plus a few times before we got the time share). Our son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Alyssa have been with us seven times -- and their son, our grandson, Jackson, was with us for the first time (but certainly not last) two weeks ago.
Some people ask how you can go back to the same place time and time again. I love it. Get off the plane, pick up a car and it's like we never left. Don’t need GPS (not that it’s available) or even a road map. Know my way around and exactly what to expect. Very comfortable. Very relaxing.
Sure there are reasons to travel, “see the world,” and experience new things. However, I prefer to recharge where the only pictures I need to take are those of family and friends in familiar places.

Ditto re our Key West haunt. Anyone traveling to "Paradise" feel free to ask for suggestions, eg, The Green Parrot!

I am with you, Ben. We spend a week every August at the Seaview in Galway, NJ. After twelve years we are like homing pigeons. Not discounting other trips mind you; it is just this one we always look forward to and invite friends and family to spend time with us during our stay.

My family and I like both worlds. Every Christmas, we spend a couple of weeks in Punta del Este, Uruguay, which is the equivalent of East Hampton for Argentines. My mother-in-law has a house a couple of blocks from the beach, and help is very cheap there. We were married in that house at the end of 1989 and it's just so wonderfully familiar and homey.

We also do another trip, usually with the kids, abroad. In August we're going to visit our son in New Zealand, where he will be doing his junior semester abroad. We'll also spend a week in Australia with my wife's cousin and his wife, who is my wife's best friend.

Best of both worlds!

I cannot disagree about something you enjoy. I take that attitude most summer weekends just going to my pool club, weekend basketball in the mornings midday swim, afternoon volleyball and more swimming. And mixing in a lot of summer concerts. Interesting my wife is not as keen on repeat visits. When we visit my mom in FLA, I try to mix in the beaches I found previously but I know I need to add in new forays every time. I could have easily repeat visited LA when we foray west to see my daughter; instead it'll be meeting our daughter in Vegas. When I was younger, I would frequent the North Fork; still have family there and knowing my way around, including the back ways and pedestrian shorts cuts to various beaches I enjoyed as well.
