We Need More Uncomfortable Conversations

We Need More Uncomfortable Conversations

Avoiding difficult conversations isn’t kindness. A lot of the time, it’s selfishness.

We avoid saying something because we don't want to feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the other person doesn't know there's a problem, the situation keeps getting worse, and eventually the conversation becomes much harder than it needed to be.

How many problems in your life right now aren't really problems but conversations you haven't been willing to have?

Think of the conversation you've been avoiding. You probably already know which one it is. Now ask yourself if it will improve by waiting another day/week/or month.

Never afraid to so engage but often it means an end (or perhaps a new beginning without that party). That said some times I’ll just opt to move on as I assess the value of the relationship in light of the facts at hand. Other times the disengagement requires a temporary entanglement out of a sense of responsibility despite a preference for an immediate clean break.
