Another Spectacular Outing
Posted By : Nancy Schess

The sun was shining, the food was plentiful and the company just plain fun. What more could we ask for (besides air conditioning on the course.) Every year, this event just gets better and better. Thanks again to Norman Spizz and the entire Golf Committee for all of their hard work. And I can’t even believe that I am going to say this –

Is He a Leader?
Posted By : Rona Gura

The latest story out of the Jets locker room has me intrigued. According to the NY Post, some players have said that Geno Smith and Ik Enemkapli were having words over a $600 debt Smith allegedly owed the linebacker. Supposedly Smith was “taunting” Enemkpali over it. Enemkpali challenged Smith to say it to his face. Smith did and pointed his fi

Having lived in Manhattan for nearly thirty years, I cannot say I knew too much about trees. In our new house in Connecticut, I am learing.   Just ten yards out of our bedroon window is a very big and beautiful tree. When we moved here in February we would stare at the bare majestic branches. It is a work of art.  Spring arrived and the leaves fill

A squirrel in crisis
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Another wierd but true story from our planet. A squirrel was "detained" when a woman called police to complain it was stalking her.   A panicked woman was unable to shake the rodent in the western German city of Bottrop, so she turned to the authorities in desperation on Wednesday, police told Reuters.   The police took in the squirrel and found it

It's Great to be Young and a Batman!
Posted By : Fred Klein

Please read my last week's blog Pregame Anxiety as prelude to this.  In a few words, I wrote I was worried about my softball Playoff performance and that of our Gotham Batmen team. Well, we passed every test and won every playoff game on the road to the Batmen's first League Championship and I got to scream, at the end of each game, at the top of

Original Tart
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

There's a local frozen yogurt place in our neighborhood. We built up a lot of loyalty points enjoying their yogurt until one day, about a year ago, when they stopped serving “Original Tart”. The owner explained that my favorite flavor was not a big seller. I was in disbelief because, for me, it was the only flavor that tasted remotely like yogur

Play It Again Sam

For me it would be a tie between My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Pretty Woman -- by far, my two favorite movies. The former because somehow I can relate to the big Greek family (and my husband’s windex is WD-40). The latter because apparently I am a sucker for a good Cinderella story. So what would your movie be? Finish this sentence. If I was f

Another Upgrade?????
Posted By : Rona Gura

I purchased my current laptop last year. It has a touchscreen and came equipped with Windows 8. Somehow, I quickly became adept at interfacing the keypad with the touchscreen and using Windows 8.   Now Microsoft has introduced Windows 10 and repeatedly sent me messages about the necessity of upgrading to 10. I really liked windows 8 and was very

Forgetting, again.

There is something especially good about playing tennis with my son Josh, aside from the fact that it is just plain fun.  And that is that he remembers the score.   When Eve and I play, it is hopeless confusion.  Which side did I just serve to?  What is the score?  I don't know, I think it is 30-40.  But it can't be that because I just served to t

Quantum Engagement
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

You can now be married by the power of quantum physics....in Las Vegas of course. I found the following story in Fast Company.   "Marriage is such an incredibly fraught topic," says Jonathon Keats, the experimental philosopher behind the project. "So much is invested in it. So much of what people want out of life is put into this legal contract. It

Pregame Anxiety
Posted By : Fred Klein

I am at the field over an hour early (so I won't be late) and I am alone with my nervous anxiety and demons. I have already stretched and I am waiting.  Am I at the right field?  Why is no one else here? Will I be able to perform up to my expectations?  Will I be able to control my pitches and hit with authority?  Will I manage the game well?  Will

Getting to Ashevile
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

I've heard the expression that "getting there is half the fun". Although I anticipated writing this blog from Asheville, North Carolina, I never thought that I'd be writing about getting --or almost not -- getting here. We booked our trip some time ago. Fly to Charlotte and a scenic two-hour drive to Asheville. The Forces had other ideas.   Got to

The Key
Posted By : Cayce Crown

We Manhattanites have it good in so many ways. One way is almost wherever we go on vacation it's cheaper, this is particularly true in the U.S. I'm down in Key West this week, not staying at the famed Klein cottage this time, too big for our needs. We do always stay in "old town" and the closeness of the cottages doesn't bother me at all. I'm used

What Happened to Lunch?
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I like lunch. It is an important part of my day. In fact, I have spent many a lunch with many of you. Missing lunch makes me cranky. The high school schedules came out today. In the buzz of activity that always accompanies the new schedules, I noticed a disturbing pattern. What happened to lunch? Where did it go? When did it become acceptab

Cars, Cars, Cars
Posted By : Rona Gura

Along with most of our home, we lost four cars during Hurricane Sandy. Although it did not feel like it at the time, looking back it was actually a funny sight. Each car seemed to become almost haunted as they each began to flood. The electrical systems went haywire, the lights began flashing on and off, the windshield wipers went on as did the
