Kids on a Plane
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

I expected that it would be an easy flight. I smiled as the family with young children slid into the seats behind us. Two children who were about three or four years old. The father sat in the middle of the three-seat row. The mother, and another child, sat in the same row on the other side of the aisle.   Shortly after takeoff, the kicking again

Real American Hero
Posted By : Erik Scheibe

I remember years ago when the Budweiser ad campaign changed their commercials from "Real American Heroes," to "Real Men Of Genius," in the days following the attack on the WTC.  It was a tasteful recognition that the way we thought about the term "Heroes" had changed forever.     Monday night I took my 13 year-old son to see the movie American Snip

To Dog or Not to Dog
Posted By : Nancy Schess

When I was growing up we had a dog, a little chocolate brown poodle named “Coco”. The dog was really my sister’s. Truth is, I didn’t really like him. He just wasn’t all that nice. He growled a lot and wouldn’t hesitate to take a bite every so often. Maybe Coco developed a complex because we gave him away when he was young. Here’s how that

Cookie Monsters

One of my family’s favorite shows is S"hark Tank."  In fact, we have, in the past, purchased some of their food products. In catching up on some episodes we missed, one product piqued my interest; cookie baking kits that were comprised of fresh organic ingredients, such as sugar and flour, with each ingredient separately packaged. What interested

A Son
Posted By : Donald Bernstein

I was touched by a post in the In Memoriam section of the New York Times this week.  I cannot comment on it.  It speaks powerfully for itself and the grieving father who wrote it.  Here it is:   "Transcending, ever flowing, my love is with its essence...you.   Your endless kindness and compassion still inspiring, your love for others bigger than yo

New luxury

From the world of OMG...Designer Alexander Amosu has deisgned two of the most expensive iPhone 6 you can buy. The cost...5.6 million. Talk about a luxury brand.   The first one is an iPhone 6 that comes with a cover made of 24-karat rose and yellow gold while the second design is just like the gold plated version, but comes with a crazy four side b

Lucy
Posted By : Fred Klein

My son David has had a female Schnoodle dog named Lucy for about 4 years. A Schnoodle is hyper allergenic, i.e., has hair not fur and therefore doesn't cause one to sneeze, etc.  2 Summers ago David prevailed upon us to get one too and we did so. As many know, Charcoal is her name and as I have previously blogged, she converted me into a dog lover.

Apology
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

I saw the headline in the Metro section of yesterday’s Wall Street Journal -- “The Politics of Apology: A Standoff”. On Tuesday, Victoria Drogin commented at the Long Island Women’s Group meeting that women tend to apologize, whereas men generally don’t. And I recall being instructed by a Senior partner at my first law firm never to apologize. A

Modern Day Mayberry?
Posted By : Erik Scheibe

I remember growing up as a kid hearing everyone speak about the television set as if it was extended from the depths of hell from Satan himself.  It was destroying people's minds, it would be the end of family time, it was rotting out our BRAINS!     Of course it didn't and of course we are saying the same things now about computers and the interne

What Would You Choose?
Posted By : Nancy Schess

My family has an Ellis Island story and it goes like this. Our family name was Jablonsky. When my great grandfather came through Ellis Island, he wanted a nice American sounding name that had no ethnicity attached. The one that came to his mind was Levine – my maiden name. Bill’s family name was Pschesslofsky – yes, with a “P”. Much too long

I'll Have the Usual
Posted By : Rona Gura

We ordered lunch into the office on Friday. Without even looking at the menu for the deli we were ordering from I placed my order with my secretary, “Greek salad with grilled chicken, no dressing; diet iced tea. Snapple diet half iced tea half lemonade if they have it.” My secretary laughed and encouraged me to look at the menu. To appease her, I

Beachball
Posted By : Donald Bernstein

I have written a few times about my office toys, which include a yo-yo, a baseball, a rubber ball, and a few other assorted diversions.   My partner has a little putting green but he must not like it because he keeps it in a box.   My favorite is the little beach ball.   It is in the picture.  An appellate printer sent it to me as a holiday gift a

French assault
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

It has been front page news since Wednesday and has France in a state of shock and fear. Al-Qaida's branch in Yemen has said they directed the attack. That "branch" had two earlier failures, the underwear bombler plot and in 2010 tried to send bombs in packages to targets in the US.   What you may not know is that French authorities had both Kouach

Showtime Shows
Posted By : Fred Klein

We are addicted to two Showtime  shows. They are Homeland and The Affair. Both of which had their season finales just before Christmas. Homeland is our number one following its best season yet. The two episodes prior to the finale were explosive and captivating while the finale was a strong bridge to next season with Quinn as the endangered love in

A Winter Thought
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

As I brushed the snow off the car the other morning, I thought of family and friends who have left New York for warmer parts. I am fond of kidding my Mother -- who spends the winter in Florida -- that the happiness of New Yorkers in Florida is inversely related to the weather: the poorer the weather in New York, the happier they are. (As any mot
