Guess what's coming?
Posted By : Donald Bernstein

Two nights ago I sat outside on our small deck taking in the last light and fading blue sky.  It was 8:30.  I recalled a trip to the Canadian Rockies years ago when the high summer sun did not set until almost 10 pm.  And this morning I woke up early to blazing sun streaming through the blinds.  Nice. And then, as if I was hearing the music abruptly

It's hot down there

This past week, if anybody noticed, the Miami Heat won their 2nd straight NBA title. Or as the media puts it Lebron James won his second straight title. Some media outlets have indicated that it's the start of a dynasty. Others insist that the perverbial "monkey" is off his back.   There's no question in my mind he is the best player in basketball

I Crossed Over (This is not a paid advertisement)

As many may know I have been a long adherent of the BlackBerry. Why? Mostly because of the keyboard which for me was far easier to use than a touchscreen. Then my trusty Blackberry went dead and when I went to the Verizon store to look at the newest model I learned, to my alarm, that it too had a touchscreen and not a keyboard. It was a true moment

Lst Night at the Friars Club
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

Last night at the Cocktail Party, I spent most of my time on the right side --- the Bar Room.  It seems that at every event on the second floor of the Friars Club, the crowd prefers one side or the other. Or, maybe it’s just me. Last night seemed to find more people in the Bar Room. One little story captures so much about what Gotham is. Ester Ho

Are You Protected? (sorry for the length in advance)

I write this not to bash a company for an individual incident, but rather to shed light upon a policy that not only do many millions not know about, but also that all of the friends and relatives that I have who work for Citibank do not know about.  I also am curious if this is legal or standard policy among all other banks, as I have not yet decid

Would You?

Apparently, here is what happened facilitated by a cell phone and You Tube. It was a long train ride, very long. A man sitting mostly by himself was engrossed in a cell phone call. We have all been there. One of those calls that the whole train can hear, word for word, intonation for intonation. This call was personal in nature, very personal, an

Mars and Venus Go to the Prom
Posted By : Rona Gura

Nancy’s recent blog about her daughter attending the prom inspired me to write this blog. Next Monday both my daughter and step-son will be attending their prom. Their preparations for the event could not be more different.   My daughter’s preparation began in early January. At that time, a Facebook page was posted wherein every girl attending th

Happy Fathers Day
Posted By : Donald Bernstein

Continuing our Father's Day tradition, today is the Annual Father's Day Bernstein Cup Golf Tournament.  We missed one year when my younger son was not in town, and though we tried to reschedule the round on a different day it never happened.  So the new rule is that we play ON Father's Day, and whoever can't make it misses out.  Harsh, but necess

Like Don, we have been having a Father's Day Golf Outing for over the past 15 years. It started out as Me, My Dad, Norm and Austin. As the years rolled on Jake started attending and it felt good to have my Dad and my son with me.   Although my Dad passed almost three years ago I miss him. He was a gentle soul even though life was difficult for him

Just Sayings

I had planned to write about Gotham's 13th annual Bob Formica Golf Outing, but Mother Nature intervened on Monday and we were compelled to postpone it until August 19th.   During the course of my reading I oft times coming across a memorable quote which I write down in my diary for future reference.  I call them "Just Sayings" and here is this year

Power Lunch ?
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

We were sitting in a small cafe near the Javits Center on a weekend afternoon. About twelve tables. Free Wi-Fi.     Around us were at least three people on their computers and next to us was a young man working on his computer. A young woman came in and joined him at the small table.     They started talking business and he explained his business

I was wrong.  OK not completely wrong, but when Don last wrote about the Russian Punk protest band "Pussy Riot,"  I thought that they were just a bunch of screwed up kids looking to cause trouble.  After watching a special documentary about them on HBO, I was wrong.   I was right about the fact that nobody has a right to screw with other people's r

I Can't Believe I am Saying This

My blog today was supposed to be about how much fun we all had together at our 11th Annual Golf Outing. Instead, we were rained out and so I cannot write that blog. 11 years ago when we started this outing, I mostly dreaded the idea. Don’t get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the company (and the food) but my absolute and complete lack of any skil

Did you know that June 7 was National Donut Day? First celebrated in 1938 by the Salvation Army in Chicago, the holiday was established as a fundraiser for those in need during the Great Depression, and to honor the Salvation Army “donut lassies” who served deep-fried rounds of dough to famished soldiers during World War I. What began as a small c
