[Fredslist] Question on Lost Bank Check First Central Savings Bank

Gotham-

A client of mine sent me a bank check which is now lost.  In order for her
bank to reissue the check to my firm, we must wait 90 days, provide an
affidavit that it was not received by my firm, and indemnify the bank for
the lost check.  I am fine providing an affidavit and waiting the 90 days.
I have never been asked to indemnify a bank for a lost check.  Is this
standard language?  Why would the payee be asked to provide indemnity?
