Yesterday afternoon, this member encountered A Different Kind of Gotham experience. When I realized I had two afternoon meeting near Gotham's unofficial temple, I perused the Gotham calendar to identify any lunch meeting at the Friars Club.

I found the Real Estate Group.

I reached out to Group Coordinator and fellow NoTY (“Networker of the Year for the acronym-challenged) Steve Kirschner; Steve welcomed me. I arrived to find a packed room on the second floor of the monastery. Folks from all kinds of professions and gigs networked pre-sitdown to lunch. I mused to myself how in the world could everyone get time to give their elevator pitch. Despite both Group chairs needed elsewhere (work aka making a real estate deal does trump networking), Steve ran a terrific meeting; this correspondent filled in some gaps when my turn came.

The meeting included fresh fish, including two young men I met as I entered the club and the first young lady I approached as I entered the room and selected where I would sit. I found an eclectic mix of folks. Suppliers of door; elevators, Kitchen, design professional, General Contractor’s, Owners Reps. the usual complement of fellow attorneys, industry association reps, PR pros. I made many connections and plan to peruse the lengthy list of attendees to identify if I missed exchanging cards and the beginnings of those famous one-on-ones, good networkers enjoy. I even got to enjoy a post lunch sitdown I was trying to schedule but logistics kept playing wrong. Overall a wonderful meeting. New contacts and relations to explore.

Glad I ventured over. Thank Steve.

The clear takeway.

Visit the Real Estate Group when you can.
