Correctional Association of New York (CA) - Communications Intern Description
The Correctional Association, founded in 1844, is an independent non-profit organization that advocates for a more humane and effective criminal justice system and a more just and equitable society.
The CA is seeking an intern to work in its Communications Department to assist with the CA’s media and online advocacy work. The Communications intern will report to the Director of Communications. This is an unpaid internship.

This is an opportunity to work with a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to fundamentally shifting the discourse around criminal justice while placing directly impacted individuals at the forefront of advocacy and reform efforts. There is a potential opportunity to participate in a prison monitoring visit sometime during internship.

The Communications Intern will:
Research new online platforms and ways to expand CA’s online presence

Assist in organizing Twitter media lists
Help maintain and update CA’s LinkedIn account
Monitor Google Ads campaigns
Other duties as assigned

The Communications intern must:
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be proficient in Microsoft Excel
Have experience using social media - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
Have experience with WordPress or other blog posting platforms -- strongly preferred
Have knowledge of video editing software a plus
Be familiar with online campaign tools
Be available 15 – 20 hours a week for the semester

The ideal candidate will possess:
A demonstrated commitment to social justice, preferably criminal justice reform issues
The ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
A general excitement to learn new skills
The ability to be a team player who can also work independently

Please submit a resume and cover letter to commsintern at correctionalassociation.org <mailto:commsintern at correctionalassociation.org>. Any resumes submitted without a cover letter will not be considered. The application deadline is Friday, January 23, 2015. We are only accepting applications sent via email. No phone calls please. Start date for position is Monday, February 9, 2015.
