[Fredslist] Varanasi, India

Hello Gotham;
I will be going to India with a group in February but the trip does not go to Varanasi so I will be staying on briefly to see it on my own.
Have any of you gone there?  How many days should I stay to reasonably soak in the atmosphere.
Any tips?  hotels?  restaurants?   sites?
