Dear Friends,
 
     Riverside Choral Society's  last concert of the season approaches ~ 
Sat May 11, 8:00 pm  

 This Spring program  is a rich sampling of melodic choral works by modern 
and  contemporary composers, ranging from ethereal a cappella  love songs 
and reveries, to evocations of Andalusia accompanied by virtuoso  guitar.  We 
will sing in English, Spanish and Hebrew.  A few  highlights...
 
    My personal favorite is a group of 7  songs by Mario  
Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a gorgeous 1951 setting of the Andalusian poet  Federico Garcia Lorca’s 
Romancero Gitano for chorus and guitar.  These pieces include a colorful, 
sensual ballad describing the countryside;  the weeping of the guitar; an 
elegy set in the tempo di  tango; Carmen's dancing; and conclude with a 
celebration complete  with castanets.   
 
    There's a glorious piece in Hebrew called Jerusalem  (Yerushalayim), as 
well as 2 works by Eric Whitacre, 5 Hebrew Love  Songs, and Sleep.  
 
    We're also excited that two or three of these composers will be with  
us in the audience!   Here's our full  program...
