Fellow Gothamites,

 

Last Monday I sent a Fred's List posting that we were "Looking to hire
insurance experienced marketing and executive assistant".  In less than an
hour, Tessa Marquis of New Standard Institute, Inc. and Gotham New Haven
responded to me with a brief description and resume of a friend who might
'just fit the bill'.

 

Within 2 hours of Tessa hitting "Send", I forwarded her note to her friend
Susan with a brief letter of introduction of my firm and me.

 

Within an hour of me hitting 'Send' Susan replied to me that our situation
sounded very interesting to her and included (as I had suggested) convenient
times for us to speak the next day, Tuesday.

 

We 'met' over the phone on Tuesday and spoke long enough that we both
decided we should meet.  Best day for everyone?  The following day,
Wednesday.

 

My team and I spent about 3 hours with Susan, getting to know one another
and learning and sharing capabilities, expectations and styles.

 

With her thank you note sent Thursday morning, Susan included a number of
references which we checked that afternoon and Friday morning (all
confirming our impressions and instincts).

 

On Friday, we agreed to hire Susan, made an offer to her over the phone.  I
sent her a formal offer letter with the terms we had agreed to Friday
evening.

 

Susan sent me a lovely note this morning accepting our offer and starts
Tuesday the 16th!

 

Whew!

 

I guess some things are met to be, but things sure happen  - or happen
better/faster/more easily - when you liberally sprinkle the Gotham pixie
dust.  Moreover, it never seems to be in short supply.

 

Thank you Gotham and special thanks to Tessa Marquis for thinking of me, her
friend, and taking the time an initiative to 'introduce' us.
