Subject: [Fredslist] events this coming week at the Merchant's House Museum

The Merchant's House Museum is the ONLY 19th Century home in Manhattan surviving intact both inside and out. At this time of the year the ghosties and ghoulies have retreated and the House is shining for the Shining of Light. Please come visit the Holiday Season of a another time, and partake of some of the wonderful events listed below.

The Merchant's House Museum
29 East Fourth Street (between Lafayette and the Bowery)
regular hours - Thursday through Monday 12 to 5
for information: 212 777-1089
website: www.MerchantsHouse.org

-------
Through Monday, January 7
Exhibit: "Deck the Halls:" A Mid-19th Century Holiday
The holiday traditions of Old New York are brought back to life at the Merchant’s House. Decorations in the double parlors include festoons of greenery and a tabletop tree straight out of the mid-19th century (the first Christmas trees were sold in NYC in the early 1850s). Festive finery from the Museum’s collection of 19th-century costumes will also be displayed. Included with regular museum admission.

-------
Enjoy a Bowl of Bishop - At the Museum's 19th-Century Holiday Party.
No, not Bishop Samuel Seabury (our own Seabury Tredwell's uncle), but the popular 19th-century libation of port and roasted oranges.

Thursday, December 13, 6 to 8 p.m.
Annual 19th-Century Holiday Party
Enjoy holiday decorations, savor festive delicacies, drink from the ‘Bowl of Bishop’, and join in the caroling led by the Museum’s own Bond Street Euterpean Singing Society. A silent auction and holiday gift bazaar will complete the festivities. $50, FREE for members.

-------
Wednesday, December 19, 7 p.m.
'To All Wassail" Holiday Concert & Carol Sing
Members of The Bond Street Euterpean Singing Society (the Museum's performing arts ensemble in-residence) presents an authentic period holiday concert of authentic 19-Century parlor music, vocal quartets, solos, traditional readings and sing-alongs in the magnificent landmarked double parlors. A wassail reception to meet the artists will follow. $20, $10 Seniors & Children, FREE for Members.

Remember, your support keeps this unique and irreplaceable resource alive and well.

Best,
Anthony
