Dear Gotham Members and Friends,

Below please find some information from a friend that has dedicated the last 15 years of his life to a truly noble cause. Mr. Airam da Silva and his family established the Icla da Silva Foundation after the passing of Airam's sister to leukemia. The Foundation's mission is to secure the highest possible quality of life for children afflicted with leukemia and improve access of patients who need bone marrow transplants to volunteer unrelated donors. They are having their fundraising gala on October 27th, and I told Airam I would send out his message to Gotham. Let's rally behind a truly wonderful organization and a wonderful cause.

Here is the information:

Dear Friends,

On Thursday, October 27, 2005, the Icla da Silva Foundation will be holding its Annual Fundraising Dinner and Dance. The event will take place at the renowned Water’s Edge Restaurant, The East River at 44th Drive, Long Island City, NY 11101. The evening will commence at 7pm with a premium open bar and hors d’oeuvres, followed by dinner at 8pm and dancing. There will be a silent auction and raffle.

The highlight of the evening will be the heartwarming meeting for the very first time between a former Leukemia patient, who received assistance from the Foundation, and the bone marrow donor who saved her life. In addition, the “Gift of Life” Award will be presented to five deserving individuals who within the last year donated bone marrow to save the life of a stranger.

The Icla da Silva Foundation, a non-profit organization, started in 1992 by the family of Icla da Silva, a Brazilian girl who died from leukemia at age 13, while searching for a donor of bone marrow match that could save her life. Over the course of the past 13 years, the Foundation has provided logistical, emotional and financial support to patients and their families. In addition, the Foundation recruited over 50,000 potential donors, making its donor pool the largest potential Latino donor base in the United States. Our mission is to secure the highest possible quality of life for these children and improve access to blood and marrow donors for patients needing bone marrow transplants from non-relative donors.

Attached is the Reservation/Sponsorship form. I am counting on your presence and contribution. If you are unable to attend, you can show your support to the Foundation’s effort to help children by sending a fully tax deductible donation, buying raffle tickets/books or placing an Ad in the event’s journal (deadline Oct. 14, 2005).

Please visit their website www.icla.org for more information.
