I help individuals and families prepare financially for life’s unexpected events—drawing on more than 40 years of experience in tax, estate, and financial planning.
Through my firm, Planning for the Unexpected, I help individuals and families organize their financial lives and prepare for the unexpected, so nothing important is left unclear, outdated, or overlooked. This includes reviewing existing plans and documents, identifying gaps or risks, and often working alongside your trusted advisors to ensure everything is aligned, accessible, and actually completed.
In my role as a Principal at AKM Advisors, I advise high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and sole proprietors, bringing a strategic tax perspective to broader financial planning and coordinating with trusted professionals as needed for implementation.
I am also an adjunct professor of accounting and taxation at New Jersey City University and Rutgers University School of Business and have contributed to leading industry publications.
Planning for the Unexpected helps individuals and families make sure their financial lives hold together when it matters most.
We focus on:
- Evaluating how tax, financial, and estate plans work together in real-world scenarios
- Identifying gaps that could create confusion, delays, or unintended tax consequences
- Ensuring key decisions can be made clearly if you or a family member cannot act
- Providing a practical framework so your family knows what to do—and why
AKM Advisors - Accounting, Tax Services and Advisory services to small businesses, individuals, estates and trusts.
In my free time, I enjoy spectator sports, reading biographies and history, and spending time with my family. I also enjoy networking with other professionals.
Warren is an adjunct professor of accounting and taxation at Long Island University and has also taught at New York University. He has spoken at the Institute of Management Accountants, the NY Society of CPAs, Long Island University and at New Jersey City University. In addition, he is an accomplished author, and has regularly contributed to publications the experts rely on, like Marshall Loeb’s Money Guide, Taxation for Accountants, and The CPA Journal.
A great introduction for me is someone who is:
- Dealing with a major life change (loss of a spouse, divorce, illness, inheritance)
- Selling a business or receiving a large financial windfall
- Approaching retirement and unsure if their assets will last
- Part of a family where financial roles or expectations are unclear
- Realizing they “have a plan,” but haven’t revisited it in years
I also welcome connections with trust and estate attorneys, financial advisors, and bankers who want a proactive planning resource for their clients.
