<![CDATA[Mike Wiebe commented on a blog post]]>Yes and I tell them try not to use the word "I" very often in starting and continuing the conversation. Try to make it about the other person. Most are surprised at this advice and it makes for great conversation between my mentee and me. It's always hard to avoid that word for all of us.

<![CDATA[Mike Wiebe commented on a blog post]]>I have been mentoring college freshman 1:1 the past year (mostly Zoom, sometimes in person) and a common thread of requested help is how to start an in person conversation with a stranger and how to maintain it. They are asking about this when we talk in general terms about communications. They went through high school mostly remote and now they are coping with an entirely new environment, sometimes newly living away from home and trying to make new friends.

<![CDATA[Mike Wiebe commented on a blog post]]>Congratulations!! Don't fret about not going in the water yet. Take a break and enjoy it. You've been doing it enough years that even with a long break you won't get out of shape. Also, at our age if you wake up not looking forward to something then don't do it and you don't want that to happen with your swim!!

<![CDATA[Mike Wiebe commented on a blog post]]>We have nicked named him "slappy". He swims the middle of the fastest lane and he is very fast. He shares his lane reluctantly. He's like a machine non stop for exactly one hour. Been around for decades. For a fast swimmer his stroke is not that good, i.e. far from smooth, hence the nick name. We have all tried to be friendly but doesn't seem to work.... maybe because he's heard the nick name.
