The Music Never Stopped

The title is a Grateful Dead song.  It fits because the first of two shows last week was a Citi Field extravaganza by Dead and Co.  Marisa and I attended.  She remarked that almost 20 years ago, her uncle took her to see the earlier alt version of the Dead, The Other Ones, at Madison Square Garden.  There was an interesting highlight that tied the

Please Welcome to the Stage . . . . .

The Sunday Gotham Blog usually has a musical theme, so when your regular Sunday Blogger asked me to fill in, I decided to maintain the beat.  When you go to a major pop or rock concert these days there are usually not many surprises – setlists are usually pretty static and you can look everything up online before the show (which can be very useful

Mine -- (1) Pearl Jam at MSG on the 21st anniversary of 9/11 -- very moving and intense show, (2) Jackson Browne at the Beacon 7/30 -- closing night of summer US Tour, JB decided to skip the usual set break and played straight through for 3 hours, (3) Pearl Jam in Camden 9/14. Much more relaxed show at a beautiful outdoor venue with a great view of the Philly skyline, (4) Phish at Bethel Woods. Solid show on a beautiful evening with a Jimi Hendrix-inspired encore of Fire/Star Spangled Banner

Concert of course! As New Year's eve approaches, I prepare a commentary recounting my top ten shows for the preceding 12 months.  I post the list with comments on my website on my Commentary page.  Some concert reviews borrowed from posts here.   Here's the list. 1)  The Who (October 7, UBS Arena) 2)  Sir Paul McCartney (June 16, MetLife Stadiu

As this day ends time to prepare to ring in the new year in song
Posted By : Corey Bearak

In advance of the holiday season (as I did a few week's back) I devote an annual blog to a "Happy Holidays in Song" playlist; this year I often included in many emails I sent of late a p.s. with a link to that playlist. Of course the weekend preceding the advent of the new year, allows me to bring to the attention of my readers and others, "Songs t

A Grammy Tribute Concert tonight, CBS at 9PM, will highlight the incredible career of New York’s superstar, Paul Simon.  From his hits as a duo with Art Garfunkel, through his solo career, Simon has been able to explore both deeply personal feelings and the exuberance of world music as a unifying force for music lovers.   Simon’s writing explored t

If each of us had someone who loved us as much as Coery loves Poco we'd all be living in Nirvana . . . .

Classic Artist, Classic Show
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Last night we drove out of state to see Richie Furay play in an intimate setting where he live streamed a show.  It was originally billed as an acoustic show but as the stage setup below shows, it featured an eight-piece band. In part it was a pre-release party for a new recording, “In the Country,” officially release on vinyl June 18 and on CD

Great list, Corey (even if Poco is overrepresented as always). The most glaring omission is Pink Floyd's epic tune 'Time", which reflects on that subject and opens side 2 of Dark Side of the Moon (back when albums had sides). Also missing are George Thorogood's rollicking cover of "In the Night Time" and Wings' "Time to Hide"

Saturday’s Gotham blogger and websmaster last week inspired this commentary.   Quite simple it involves 85 tunes. Across 1/4 of a day!    Last weekend I created a songlist. Earlier today I posted it to my website. I compiled songs with the word, “time” in the title (The plural “times” applies not here.).   Find versions in Apple Music and on
