When a friend sends information about a cause or other charity for which they hope to solicit donations, I typically do not respond directly to them. I make the donation (or I don't depending on the cause - e.g., I may have already donated or donate to a similar charity already). That's usually how it goes. If they notice the donation, they usually graciously thank me after the fact. It's a very personal issue. I don't know that there's any right or wrong way to handle the situation.

Have you ever been asked by a friend to make a donation to their cause? Do you dignify the request with a response? If you comply, what motivates you to do so? Also, what equation goes into the amount of the donation? Lastly, do you remember the amount? I'm not sure if there has been a scholarly study on this subject or that the answers to my above

One of my favorite mantras is "Up is down and down is up".  You know, what was once bad for you is now "the cure" and so on and so on...Well, my granddaughter Maggie has taken the concept to a wonderful creative and positive extreme.  She presently has a showing of her Art work at Roslyn's Bryant Library where she reveals:I am working to express th

Thank you to Fred for putting me in touch with Adam. Alan and Adam were terrific, and Fred's introduction was excellent. A great afternoon, for sure.

Tipping

I recently had an interesting conversation with friends about tipping.  Before I relate the conversation , it is useful to explain that “tip” is an acronym for To Insure Promptitude and the custom originated in Europe and is traced back to 17th century England.  Whatever it’s origins, tipping has become an integral way of life and sustenance in our

I can’t explain it, but most days I’m friendly.     I encounter a person and am compelled to strike up a conversation and then find common ground and then explore similarities and experiences.  Before I know it we are “fast friends”.   People have remarked upon this conduct. Some positive, some wonder and some negative.     Whatever the source, I c

Doing It Was The Reward!

Our granddaughter Maggie came home from college for the holidays last week and stayed with us due to illness in her home. Her stay was highlighted by our parenting her through previously scheduled LASIK eye surgery.  Was she nervous?  Was there anxiety?  Were there thoughts of backing out?  Of course!  She’s so down to earth.  So human.  So natural

She Did It All!

Thanksgiving is always a bountiful and enjoyable holiday, but this year’s was extra special as our immediate Family convened at (older son) David and Julie’s house.  Yes, David carved the Turkey, but, unquestionably, the driving force was Julie. She did it all!Putting aside all her shopping and preparation while holding down a full time job, she ex
