Insurance policies! They're like Jell-O; there is always room for one more policy! =;-O

Just One?
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

I was at the movies with my grandson. It was one of those upscale theaters with reclining seats and food brought to you.And a bowl of popcorn appeared and was placed on the little table in front of me.As I reached for the popcorn, the voice resonated in my ear: “I bet you can’t eat just one!”A challenge of self control. And I lost.Thinking about it

How you are insured doesn't matter . . . . . . until it does.

Insurance

I was brought up to believe in the necessity for and value of insurance and over the years have paid far far more in premiums than the rare settlement payments I have received.    This year the premiums have gone up still again and, despite efforts to understand the increases or "shop" my coverage, I am at a total loss.  I have a friend who years

How about the Stonewall Riots? Ironically, Judy Garland's death that same week overshadowed the events in Greenwich Village, at least at that time.

1969

Last week my Friday With Fred blog was about the Anubis Horribus year of 1968, eg, 2 assassinations and my friend David Berger suggested I lighten it up by blogging about the wonderful subsequent year.   1969 has been called The Year That Shook the World.   Pictured are many of the wonderful highlights of a wonderful bounce-back year! For me, a Spo

I saw West Side Story on Broadway, shortly before the COVID shutdown. I was very disappointed. The story has not aged well at all, IMHO. I am not sure that I am going to bother with the film.

West Side Story: Snap to See It
Posted By : ODEY RAVIV

My wife and I saw West Side Story (with only 1 other person in the theater) at a Monday matinee on a big screen with great sound, lounging on recliners.    I remember being taken to the Robert Wise directed WSS by my parents in 1961 at the “old” huge Syosset Panavision Cinema.  I remember enjoying the gang stuff and the fighting.  The colors were v

This falls under, "Measure twice; cut once" - make sure that it's correct. The responsibility falls to the inviter.

The Day or the Date
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

Days (of the week) and dates (of the month) - oftentimes a single day can be labeled with two identities. Do you focus on the day or the date?A few weeks ago, we received an invitation from our friends for an event on “Friday, 11/11”. Without realizing the error that the day and date didn’t match, we entered the event for 11/11 on our calendar. We w

4 Seasons?
Posted By : Fred Klein

When I was young there was a lovely character on the Howdy Doody show named Princess Summerfallwinterspring. Such a creative moniker! As I grew older, I always remembered the Princess as we reveled in our good fortune to enjoy New York’s full 4 season splendor:  Spring and it’s green regeneration, sparkling Summer sun at the beach and colorful Fall

This is a throwback to an agrarian economy, and while there is certainly farming still done, it is only a fraction of the overall economic picture. Furthermore, I question if modern farming techniques actually require an additional hour of daylight. Time to retire this "tradition".

Fall Back
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

This past Monday - the first day in the office after leaving daylight savings time - I couldn’t figure out how the morning had passed so quickly until I realized that I hadn’t turned back the clock on my desk. I looked up from my work and saw that it was approaching noon, paused and finally realized that it was only eleven. I reset the clock with a

I have seen a video of the final scene, which is largely car crash sounds. IMHO, this is simply voyeuristic trash designed to attract tourists and blue-haired ladies from the suburbs.

DIANA: The World’s Cultural Icon
Posted By : ODEY RAVIV

It is almost 25 years since Diana’s death and she remains a focus of so much attention. We have Netflix’s The Crown, a CNN Documentary Diana, the film Spencer(D’s maiden name)  about her family’s Christmas as the Princess. And, believe it or not, the Broadway Musical, Diana is about to open.   Diana was 19, when she wed a future King.  She won over
