Last weekend we celebrated 34. The actual anniversary fell one week ago today; I noted it in last week’s blog (‘Cause it matters). We chose to officially celebrate on the eve before. Interestingly, we chose the “events” based on an unplanned interruption several weeks earlier.   I scored “twofer” tickets for Jersey Boys on February 16 at the New World Stages but a manhole fire in the street outside the entrance canceled that eve’s show. We were walking down the south side of ...
Best wishes in this first weekend of the new year. Many recent Gotham blogs looked ahead and share resolutions and predictions for this year. Instead, I continue practice to share a list compiled and commentary posted to my website on the top ten shows I attended in the year just ended. Hope you find the list -- 1) John Fogerty and ZZ Top 2) The Richie Furay Band performs POCO DeLIVErin’ 3) Jeff Beck, Paul Rodgers, Ann Wilson 4) Glenn Tilbrook 5) The Eagles 6) Ro...
Going into this weekend, I planned no blog relating to music. Indeed, I thought a lot about the theme Gotham’s webmaster covered yesterday. As with much of my writing, things change. Then we attended a concert at the now named Theatre at Westbury which used to have Music Fair in its moniker. My familiarity with the music and that the performers included two original (no longer Young) Rascals Felix Cavaliere and Gene Cornish certainly lent to expectations of an enjoyable eveni...
This afternoon, Gotham hosts its annual Battle of the Bands®.   In contrast to discussions about politics that tend towards controversy and division, music tends to bring people of different persuasions together.   Some of my social media posts (I purpose avoid giving P.R. to either platform in this blog) invite “interesting” comments. Even articles I share on Gotham Political Listserve (Politics@GothamNetworking.com) engender intense discourse.   Not so when I post abo...
My enjoyment of good music remains steadfast. Those who know me best know my preferences (tastes?). Indeed leaving a lunch last month at my alma mater (same place for poli. sci. and law school) the question, what is Poco?, got posed by the distinguished ethics professor and the speaker my friend Sean and I delivered to the Mineola LIRR on our way back to Queens. A bumper sticker displayed prominently on the rear states “Induct Poco into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Employi...
I returned the favor. For my birthday Shelly took me to see Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at B.B. King's Saturday eve. In my college years I would see a concert on on near the date of my birthday.  Approaching my 18th birthday, I saw Dave Mason at Hofstra U.  About a week shy the following year I saw Eric Clapton at the Nassau Coliseum.  The following year it was a doubleheader of sorts at that same venue -- Loggins & Messina, Fleetwood Mac and John Sebastian fi...
