Knowing a few folks often becomes a calling card in doing business. The proverbial “large” rolodex (Anyone still use one – I once had two!) became a resource often helpful in developing business prospects, securing introductions, accessing experts and more.   At a recent non-profit board meeting, several matters came up. A board member I had recruited shared some expertise on at the outset of the discussion. On the spot I knew I could reach out to other professional who I co...

I enjoy recognizing those who make a difference in our communities and the world. This explains my involvement in the Gotham Green Awards® – established by Gotham City Networking, Inc.® and Gotham Green® – which recognize people, businesses and organizations that work on environmentally sustainable initiatives and projects.   Indeed, as co-chair of Gotham Green®, I get to participate in this celebration of people and organizations, who work in ways big and small to make our ...
When March arrives I anticipate and look forward to Spring. I think more about Baseball with opening day at the end of the month of late. Some other things of note occur on the Sports side. March Madness means College Hoops and pools for many. Football Free Agency starts in less than two weeks on March 14 (the draft about six weeks later, April 25-27). Yet as a bit of snow yesterday demonstrated, it forecasts no real relief on the weather side. But for me still the small roun...
Interesting how time intersects.  So in last week’s blog, I released an updated Happy Holidays in song playist, which included a few extra Chanukah songs.  Some people provided links to some songs you’ll find next year (though I did informally add them pending placement within the flow of the existing list.).  In the week that followed last year’s blog releasing that year’s updated playlist, we attended a family Chanukah gathering hosted by my brother; I blogged about the mus...
At Thanksgiving which we celebrated last Thursday, we express thanks for our family, friends and all good things. In two days we get a different chance to express our thanks. Indeed, many of our inboxes probably experienced receipt of email messages exhorting our participation in giving on Tuesday, christened  “Giving Tuesday,” Interestingly, in Gotham, we experience collectively the fruits of our own giving when our tribe’s “Season of Giving” concludes with the selection of ...
Today please join me in celebrating two special anniversaries.   One involves music and 50 years.   Another not yet a decade but many people think much longer.   This eve, as some who follow Gotham’s music listserve know, the first of two anniversary concerts recognizing the 50thAnniversary of the iconic Byrds LP, “Sweetheart of the Rodeo,” takes place at Town Hall. I first learned of the tour featuring original members Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman supported by Marty Stua...
A year ago I discussed two gatherings. This time just one. It represented almost that cross-pollination effect that Fridays blogger likes to note at meetings or other things Gotham. Most times I enjoy a morning full court “game.” This week no court experience but the 4th Annual Gotham Picnic and Softball game.  Keeping with tradition, we used my caterer, Saidy’s Cafe.  One of my basketball players joined in this year. Fred (Klein) batted him lead-off on our team.  He also vou...
Early this summer Shelly “declared” we would redo the “patio” and garden space below our deck next year in time for next summer. She meant a total redo to a space I did on my own probably at least 25 years. Some of the space, including a spot for the grill on Belgian blocks became an afterthought when we replaced the deck. At the July 17 meeting of Gotham Towers, I mentioned to Jan Arden who did the deck (and the windows looking out to it) those plans; and said we would dis...

At Gotham meetings we’ll mention the “Power of Gotham.” How through Fredslist which I have moderated since last fall, we find help for our needs, some rather difficult, place friends and relatives and some of us in new gigs. Many of us look good to friends, relatives – and clients who benefit from the introductions to the professionals in our Gotham tribe. Through the relationships we develop, business results. And not to diminish the social, real and enduring friendship resu...

The evening before involved a rather large outing of sorts.   Some 265 or so of friends, colleagues, their family, friends, colleagues and clients. Attending either through Gotham City Networking,Inc.® or Kings FDR Tolerance Foundation of FDR Lodge 613, Knights of Pythias.   Citifield. Mets v. Yankees. Five home runs.   Fireworks during the game and after.   Some left happy because of one outcome (which disappointed others). (If only this score above held but it was nice wh...
