The phrase titling this blog comes from lyrics in a John Lennon tune. If I just chose the first two words, it recalls the title of The Doors’ second LP, Strange Days, featuring their second hit, “People Are Strange.”   We keep reading how less busy those not working in “critical” aka “essential” functions find themselves. Perhaps. Not here. Since things came to a head one would think some us would have more time. In meetings of my Gotham Network (which hosts this and six othe...

I had looked forward to to a few road trips – well long rides – using my songs of the road playlist but it seems like many plans a lot of us looked forward to – Postponed. Indeed, over the last few week, many events I helped planned and/or planned to attend got the new “P” word; in a few circumstances, another word applied – “canceled.” I prefer postponed.   In any event, this applies in all facets of my world, professional, networking, non-profit, fraternal, recreation (over...
Often my first show of the season involves a Gotham connection. Last year, it was a show at My Father’s Place that Shelly and I attended with Vincent and Susan Russo. Often, The Gotham Battle of the Bands® (“BOTB”) works out as my first show of the year. This year, definitely not to be. Marisa and I take in the Eagles later this month at MSG. A few weeks back I already outlined here the state of my concert plans. Besides the band above influenced by my favorite band Poco and ...
No secret to frequent followers of this blog, and to many (most? All?) who know me how much I enjoy music, especially of a certain genre. Yesterday, I saw a tweet between to City Council Members I know that I think was trying to equate the quality and state of music today to politics today and a comparison to an earlier era. I replied my view that most of the best music with limited exceptions occurred from 1967 though 1974. Earlier last week, I found myself discussing with m...
When I think about the approach of Thanksgiving, I think about more than giving thanks for my family, friends, colleagues and my life. More and more the focus involves giving. I only hope I do enough. The Tuesday that follows Thanksgiving – Giving Tuesday – represents a culmination of giving efforts through Gotham. As Friday’s blogger repeatedly reminds us on Fredslist and various Gotham groups he attends, Gotham’s Holiday Party that eve features the selection of charities th...

It’s the name of a Neil Young compilation from 1977 covering 1966-1976.   A ten-year period that gives some meaning to a relationship many in Gotham believe spans a time much longer.   It involves Gotham and I did not even mention it at the Picnic which included a competitive softball game that ended on a controversial play: a ball rolling foul got picked up while still fair but ruled foul and being a third swing playing three swings, became the final out.   If fair, we scor...

Last weekend we enjoyed the first use of our verified TSA enrollments. It involved a short flight to Roanoke. As to the lines, we appeared not to save much time, since we caught a not so busy time. Nonetheless, I enjoyed not needing to shed my sneakers and unpack the Mac, iPad and iPhone. And we enjoyed that same convenience on the return trip. Lightning, however, grounded our plane a few hours and marred my plans to attend the “famous” Gotham “Quad” Long Island meeting – rea...

Knowing a few folks often becomes a calling card in doing business. The proverbial “large” rolodex (Anyone still use one – I once had two!) became a resource often helpful in developing business prospects, securing introductions, accessing experts and more.   At a recent non-profit board meeting, several matters came up. A board member I had recruited shared some expertise on at the outset of the discussion. On the spot I knew I could reach out to other professional who I co...

I enjoy recognizing those who make a difference in our communities and the world. This explains my involvement in the Gotham Green Awards® – established by Gotham City Networking, Inc.® and Gotham Green® – which recognize people, businesses and organizations that work on environmentally sustainable initiatives and projects.   Indeed, as co-chair of Gotham Green®, I get to participate in this celebration of people and organizations, who work in ways big and small to make our ...
When March arrives I anticipate and look forward to Spring. I think more about Baseball with opening day at the end of the month of late. Some other things of note occur on the Sports side. March Madness means College Hoops and pools for many. Football Free Agency starts in less than two weeks on March 14 (the draft about six weeks later, April 25-27). Yet as a bit of snow yesterday demonstrated, it forecasts no real relief on the weather side. But for me still the small roun...
