The other day one of my young (yes young) basketball (Our school gym has been closed since schools closed in March and we remain without any word on a possible re-start.) players texted he is part of an outdoor summer “free, socially distant” concert in downtown Jamaica. I responded there were plans that eve to see one of my all-time faves in the South Orange Performing Arts Center in New Jersey that eve but I am sure it will be rescheduled (it was already rescheduled from la...
This time of year, I usually look to gather lists of summer concerts, many free, to recommend. Not this year. Often, the discussions about music involve what great show got canceled, postponed or rescheduled. Not sure how many texts and emails I’ve exchanged with my friend Jason about changes involving shows planned at Jones Beach this year. We’ve talked about things such as drive-in concerts – not something either one of us consider an acceptable option; a drive-in movie inv...
A week ago on a drive to dine out with friends, but not driving (Folks who know us both: Paul was driving!), I was scribbling a list of road songs and a few songs that fit that motif even if drive, road or highway was not in the title or lyrics.  I already compiled a train song list for my blog that ran last Sunday (check it out if you missed the blog gathered more comments for the week ended yesterday than Friday's blogger!).  So check out Songs for the Road.   Before forma...
Often my first show of the season involves a Gotham connection. Last year, it was a show at My Father’s Place that Shelly and I attended with Vincent and Susan Russo. Often, The Gotham Battle of the Bands® (“BOTB”) works out as my first show of the year. This year, definitely not to be. Marisa and I take in the Eagles later this month at MSG. A few weeks back I already outlined here the state of my concert plans. Besides the band above influenced by my favorite band Poco and ...
Let me start with best wishes for the new year. I hope I helped a bit to get you ready with last week’s blog highlighting my song list to ring in the new year which also exists in a YouTube playlist. (If you tire of music since two weeks ago I covered my Holiday song playlist and last week I shared concerts I streamed driving to a Chanukah gathering, you better consider stopping now!)   For the past seven new year’s eves, I compose a different list.   A top ten list.   Al...

A very moving experience at the movies on Monday. One of the previews showed a woman hiding Jews from the Nazis (The Zookeeper's Wife, true story). It is still astonishing and upsetting to me that humans could have let this happen. My hope and belief is that we will not let this happen again. We are certainly better equipped today than we were then. Another of the previews showed a young girl who was extraordinary at math. And the feature I was seeing was about a lot of wome...

So I thought I'd see what was "trending" on Google, so I could write a really up-to-date blog post. Here's what I found. 1. Hamilton Chicago - Tickets are going for $9000. 2. Michael Jackson - Stockpiles of violent porn at Neverland Ranch 3, Lauri Peterson - Never heard of her, but she's on Real Housewives and her son is suspected of attempted murder. 4. Taco Bell Free Taco - Free tacos today (Tuesday) from 2p to 6p None of this seems the least bit relevant to my life and exp...
