Invariably, my waistline expands as the weather gets colder.  Some say this happens due to our natural need for insulation. Whatever the reason, it's happening.Obviously, I know that carbohydrates are not so good for me as they are fattening and that being a carnivore I should consume mostly protein. However, although I usually eschew bread, pancakes, French toast and waffles, I can’t resist French fries, pasta, risotto, ice cream, cookies, cake, pizza, and such other delicio...

I eat a different variety Chobani yogurt every morning.  Last Sunday I mentioned that I was enjoying my favorite and Joanne asked “Which one is it?”.   I looked at the label and responded S’mores. The name was unusual and new to me, so I asked Joanne it’s meaning and she said “haven’t you ever had a s’more?”.  When I told her no, she explained that when she was young at campfires they made a concoction of graham crackers,  Hershey‘s chocolate squares and roasted marshmallows ...

I know a lot of people who are addicted to the weather channel and constantly check weather forecasts. Except for softball season when I fear rain outs and tomorrow when the Gotham picnic is scheduled, I ignore the weather forecast. Early in the week rain was forecast and some panicked, but I adopted a wait and see attitude. In my limited experience, I have found that the forecast can be wrong and subject to change. This is sometimes a good thing and sometimes it is a bad thi...

I noticed that as a result of the merger of Whole Foods and Amazon it was announced that Whole Foods would reduce its prices.  I understand that Whole Foods is more expensive than other food outlets, supposedly due to superior quality.  I must admit that I am not the family shopper.  Joanne is and she's loyal to Whole Foods, especially the meat, but now she's apprehensive re an inevitable fall off in quality or return to higher price.   I thought this was why we have anti tru...

When I was young the ice cream choices were pretty much limited to chocolate or vanilla with yucky strawberry bringing up the rear.   For whatever the reason, I always chose chocolate.  To be honest, I didn't even consider vanilla to be a flavor.  It was something neutral to spice up with chocolate sprinkles or sauce (Bosco).   I never allowed myself to savor the delicious vanilla bean flavor.  I never rolled it on my tongue and enjoyed the more subtle taste sensation.  How w...

Last Sunday I had the best turkey sandwich I've ever tasted in my life. The fresh turkey was moist and it had (our) garden fresh tomatoes, spicy Dijon mustard and crispy lettuce blanketing it on a seeded soft roll.  See photo.

It was having a party in my mouth!  Yum!

Thanks and props to the maker (Jo) from the eater!

My friend Ennid Berger says, I like to eat almost everything. However, my wife Joanne is far more discriminatingand as the years have gone by I have developed the ability to help her "manage" the menu,i.e., choose something that she will like. Otherwise, if she does not like something she ordered we have to trade plates. I am now thinking of giving a course at the New School or some other eclectic forum called "Menue Management" and lending myself out to fine restaurants.  Af...
