While away on vacation recently, my family and I had very limited access to the internet. The only free internet was in the huge resort lobby. To access the internet in your room, or anywhere else in the resort, there was an additional fee. My husband and I made the decision not to pay the fee so that, when together with our kids, either on the beach or in a restaurant, they were truly “with us” and didn’t have their heads down in their phone.

As a compromise, we agreed that every night, after dinner, we would all bring our phones or tablets to the lobby and spend an hour on the internet. During this time my stepson typically would tell us a bit about what was going on in the outside world. When I questioned him about the source of his information, assuming it was CNN or a similar web site, it surprised me when his answer would routinely be Twitter.

I still love reading paper newspapers but have adapted to the changes in technology by checking CNN.com daily. Should I now rely on Twitter to get my news? Do you?
