I'd recommend that participants who've registered secure their bottles ASAP,
as most wine shops won't necessarily have all (or even any) of the
selections. As mentioned, Paul and I have available limited quantities of
the wines we each selected (bottle #s 1 & 2 for me; #s 3 & 4 for Paul), so
make arrangements with us (in exchange for your online contribution to the
Gotham Foundation) to pick up your bottles.

You're welcome to taste all four (or fewer) bottles; if you are concerned
about opening multiple bottles in one night, there are ways of preserving
open bottles for several days, including:

*	Use an empty half-bottle: Pour half of a freshly-opened full-sized
bottle of wine into a clean half bottle (completely filling the half
bottle), and secure it with a stopper or screwcap closure; drink what's left
of the full bottle. The absence of any air in the filled half bottle should
preserve it for several days.

*	Use a Vacu Vin wine saver pump and stoppers:

Be sure to store the bottle upright; laying it on its side will increase the
area of wine exposed to the air.

In each instance, refrigerating it may help preserve the opened bottle. If
it's a red, take it out of the refrigerator about 45 - 60 minutes before
drinking, so that it's not too cold.

Note: Lighter reds generally expire sooner after being opened; heavier,
fuller bodied reds tend to last a day or two longer.

Paul and I are looking forward to tasting the wines and talking about them
with everyone.

Best,

David

Event on April 26

Join us for Gotham's first "Wine Tasting 101" online event, presented by
pseudo-sommeliers Paul Napolitano and David Abeshouse, both long-time Gotham
members. The event will take place on Monday, April 26, from 6 - 7:15 p.m.
(no charge other than for the wine you purchase independently, in advance).

This will be a fun, educational, and interactive discussion and tasting of
up to 4 different bottles of red wines. Buy any or all 4 bottles in
advance, and join the conversation, Gotham-style.

In no particular order, the 4 red wines that will be tasted and discussed
are:

1. 2019 Willamette Valley Vineyards "Whole Cluster" Pinot Noir (Oregon,
$19).

2. 2017 Cune Rioja Crianza (Spain, $10).

3. 2016 Cassa Douro Reserva (Portugal, $15).

4. 2018 La Garenne (Bordeaux, $13).

Bring your corkscrew and glass, and get ready for a viniferous good time!

Limited to the first 15 participants/couples. Please register only if you
do intend to attend.

Bottle Buys in Glen Head recently had bottles #3 and #4 in stock, and Total
Wines in Westbury recently had bottles #1 and #2 in stock, but if anyone has
any problem accessing them, they can contact Paul and David, as they have
some limited additional supply, available for pickup at our respective
houses. Subject to availability (first come, first served), these bottles
are offered free, in exchange for a $15 per bottle contribution to the
Gotham Foundation.
