Thank you all who responded to my query re renewing driver’s license and passport.

Your answers were far more buttoned up than the DMV.  I did try to get an "enhanced license”, usable for travel ID too, but after being sent from one DMV office to another, I did not have all the documents they require so I ended up filing for a regular driver’s licene which I could have gotten on line.

However, onward and upward - I will now take on the adventure, with all your good advice, of trying to renew my expired passport.
