Hello Gotham members: I just received the announcement below, and it made me realize I should share this news with all my contacts. If you know a 7th or 8th grade girl, considering a private HS in NYC, I strongly urge them to consider my Alma Mater The Mary Louis Academy (TMLA). Although it’s a Catholic school, many students are of different faiths. They offer many scholarships, and are easy to get to as the F subway and many buses are one block away.

TMLA is one of the few remaining single gender schools, where empowering young women in a positive, nurturing College Prep environment is at their core. The many AP courses offered from Freshman year, their leadership in Women’s sports ( ”with 29 teams, TMLA is home to the largest all-girls athletic program in New York City”), and advanced programs in Art, Technology & Science (STEM), Music and so many others, provide solid stepping stones to varied fruitful careers. The support of many illustrious alumnae have helped TMLA to continue to thrive; while other private schools are closing TMLA is growing.

The Mary Louis Academy is proud to announce a very generous gift to grow our already uniquely advanced College Prep program. This recurring commitment is made by an alumna who has a strong desire to ensure that TMLA women have the best and brightest futures possible. Her desire is based on the fact that she credits TMLA for much of her own personal and professional success as the first woman to lead a Fortune 500 company in the fashion or beauty industry.

TMLA’s ASPIRE College Prep Initiative is the result of this new gift. The program will take immediate effect and dramatically enhance our renowned College Prep program. Some of the enhanced benefits to our students are as follows:

  No-cost trips, open to all students, to visit top-tier colleges and universities

 SAT/ACT prep courses and boot camps offered on-campus to all students at little or no cost

Independent consultants for college application/admissions process

Financial Advisors to guide students and families through the scholarship, financial aid and loan process to help make attending the college of your choice an achievable goal

An additional College Counselor added to our staff

  TMLA’s new ASPIRE College Prep Initiative will make a dramatic difference in the pathway to college for each of our students. TMLA is proud that 100% of our graduates attend college and over 86% are awarded at least one academic scholarship.
