Hi

My uncle passed away in May. He rented an apartment in Brooklyn Heights.  My
aunt - his sister - is executor as well as willed all his possessions. She
has a key to the apartment and the mail box. There is a death certificate as
well.

 

The landlord is refusing to let me aunt come into the apartment or have
access into the building since his death to clean out the refrigerator, pick
up the mail, and begin to clean out the apartment. Most recent demand is the
rent for May, June and July plus they want to keep the security deposit and
last month they have in escrow.  Who in Gotham handles tenant rights in this
situation that can guide her as to whether this is legal or they are
attempting to strong arm her in her grief.
