Dear Tribe,

I have a contact whose wife is in the process of receiving (they believe this is the case) around $500k plus from a personal injury suit. Their kids are in 10th, 8th and 7th grades and they are concerned that this money may cause them to lose college aid, as they have nothing saved for college (they are not clients of mine).

Is there any way that they could potentially receive the funds from the lawsuit in a way that would preclude it from being used in the financial aid or expected family contribution calculation?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
