Thank you, to everyone who replied to my panicked request for help
yesterday. At Corey Bearak's suggestion, I got on the phone with Apple
Support who walked me through restoring my calendar from my backup on Time
Capsule. It took a while; but I managed to get it done and still make it
to the Gotham Dinner meeting on time.

Though we aren't sure why the calendar disappeared entirely, I did find out
how it began. When the operating system update completes, it requests you
to sign in with your Apple ID and password. Though I don't recall the
exact prompt, Wil, the Senior Apple Advisor told me it says to sign in to
use Apple services. This is what enables iCloud and was the beginning of
the issue with my calendar. He said if I didn't want to use iCloud, I
should have chosen to skip that step of the process.

Today, I have to check my husband's computer as he did the same thing I did
yesterday. Luckily, Wil sent me his contact information so I may call him
directly to help me fix my husband's computer.

The instruction wasn't clear to me. If it had referenced iCloud I would
have skipped it. However I did have a good conversation with the about
iCloud and will learn more about it to decide whether I should begin using
it or not. That is a story for another day.
