[Fredslist] phone service question

Does anyone know if Verizon has the right to turn off phone service if we do not want to switch from copper wire (land line) to fiber optics (which needs electricity)?

 I don’t want to switch and they are insisting. 

Is there any other company that services copper wire land lines?
