[Fredslist] Question about Special Ed Legal Issue

Hello Gotham,

I have a friend who is in the process of retaining a law firm concentrating in special ed issues to challenge an IEP finding and apply for Dept of Education funding for her child's school programs. She has asked me to review the retainer agreement, but I am not familiar with 'standard practice' for this field. The retainer appears to be structured with a flat legal fee for most of the work through the anticipated hearings, and an additional percentage to be paid to the law firm from any 'recovered funding' from the Dept of Education. Is this the usual fee structure?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thank you.
Alexandra
