Hi Catherine,

Here's a possible response which falls into the "write, vent, and delete
email" category:

"Thank you for all your intentional and unintentional assistance. Your
patience and helpful email have paid off, and your hope has been realized -
we've made our final decision. Since we value relationships above all else,
we've decided not to work with you. Moral of story: Be careful what you
wish for, you just might get your wish."

It always astounds me how some business people - especially those in
consumer services industries - are so absolutely clueless when it comes to
communication skills.
