Gotham's 2nd Annual Battle of the Bands takes place next Sunday, March 16 at the Martin Luther School in Maspeth (please scroll down for more details).
Among the eight contestants, Chordless Trio.  
Read about them below.  
You can hear and see them play on Sunday.  
Check them and the other seven contestants out.
I need you help.  As a BOTB judge, audience reaction is just one of the measures that can influence the decisions of the distinguished panel on which I participate.  So please attend.

Chordless Trio

CHARLIE CARANICAS

Charlie Caranicas is a consummate performer of traditional and main stream jazz and has graced the stages of many of the finest jazz venues in the world. Charlie co-led the house band at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City and he was the trumpet soloist with the renowned Rainbow Room Orchestra. Charlie has performed with artists as varied as Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, the Independence Hall Jazz Band, the Onyx Club Sextet, the Karrin Allyson Group, Barbara Rosene, Vanessa Trouble, Judy Carmichael, Gelber and Manning, the Kelly Friesen Quintet, the Chico O’Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, the Vanguard Orchestra, the Andy Farber Big Band, the Flying Neutrinos. Charlie has also received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Kelly Friesen Bassist
Canadian-born bassist/vocalist Kelly Friesen moved to the New York in 1993. After playing with jazz greats such as Herb Ellis, Bucky Pizzarelli, Kenny Davern, Dick Hyman and Warren Vache, Kelly soon established himself as one of the premiere bassists in New York City. Prior to moving to New York, Kelly studied exclusively for 4 years with legendary jazz bassist Ray Brown. Kelly was a regular member of the Woody Allen New Orleans jazz Band from 1997-2001 at the Café Carlyle in NYC. His unique “Slap Bass" style is featured on the sound track to the Woody Allen film, “Sweet and Lowdown," as well as a brief cameo near the end of the film. In 1999, Kelly did a tour in France with guitarist Al Casey and the late tenor saxophonist David “Bubba" Brooks. Kelly has recorded extensively, and can currently be seen working in and around the tri-state area leading several groups, and performing as a top sideman with many notable jazz groups in New York's finest jazz clubs. Dave Meade Percussionist
Dave Meade was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area where he had the great opportunity to study and perform many different types of percussion and music. Working with the late great pianist Smith Dobson, Dave played with such renown Jazz artists as Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, Don Menza, Barney Kessel and Scott Hamilton. In 1987, Meade moved to NYC and immediately started playing in the Big Band and Latin Band at the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center. It is here where he met trumpeter Charlie Caranicas.
As a performer, Dave continues to work locally and abroad with a wide variety of singers, entertainers and musicians. He has toured with Aretha Franklin, Bobby McFerrin, Diahann Carroll, The Mamas and the Papas, Armenian sensation Datevik Hovanesian, and Leslie Uggams. His piano trio,'Primary Colours" recorded on the Jazzheads record label. He has also toured with Jazz legends Wayne Shorter and Larry Coryell, been musical director for tap dancer Savion Glover, and in 2003 was picked as a Jazz Ambassador by the United States State Department, performing Latin Jazz in the former Yugoslavian Republic.
Dave is well versed in Brazilian and Afro Cuban musical styles, having played in many well known groups in NYC, including both the Arturo O’Farrel and Lincoln Center Afro Cuban Orchestras. He is currently performing with the Brazilian opera singer and Tony award winner Paulo Szot.
