[Fredslist] question for bankers, or lawyers

Hello again ~
 
  Does NY state law or federal law require a TIN or EIN to open a new  
attorney IOLA account now?  I've had several such accounts here and in  another 
state over the years w/o either of these numbers.  So far 2  banks tell me 
they require this, but they don't know if it's  required by law.  
 
  Would really appreciate the skinny on this- and if anyone  knows, which 
banks would open this account without such a  number.
