The original Donnell was 80,000 sq ft, depending on your research source.  The new one, in the basement, will be 21,000 sq ft.

The article you quote of course gives a one sided report on the issue of the harm landmarking can do. But it is written by the REBNY, a bunch of developers. What do you expect? There are formidable articles that show that landmarking improves the values of the properties themselves landmarked, as well as those that are nearby. I don't have time to look them up, but Andrew Dolkart has probably written quite a few, as have Simeon Bankoff, and Andrew Berman, to name a few.
