She worked as Series Producer for Public Television's award-winning
series IN THE LIFE for five years. During her tenure, the series
garnered many awards from NLGJA, GLAAD, and Webbys. As a freelance
producer, Gares worked on television specials and documentaries for
the History Channel, Food Network, USA Networks. Gares has
independently produced the documentary UNRAVELED about genetic testing
and Alzheimer’s Disease which won a Freddie Award in 2008. Gares
worked for PBS's premiere non-fiction film showcase, P.O.V./The
American Documentary, in a variety of roles including Associate
Producer. She has a BA in English Literature from Rutgers University
and an MA in Media Studies from The New School University.
